NBA Betting Guide: Pace, Rest and Injury Pricing
Basketball prices move on availability more than any other sport. Who is playing is worth more than any trend you can name.
What actually moves this market
Injury news is the whole market
An NBA total and spread can move several points on one inactive. Late-breaking rest decisions are the single largest source of price movement in the sport.
Pace sets the total, efficiency sets the spread
Possessions per game determines how many scoring opportunities exist; points per possession determines who wins them. They are separate inputs and confusing them produces bad totals reads.
Back-to-backs are priced, but unevenly
The schedule spot is in the number. The specific combination - second night, on the road, against a rested opponent, with a thin bench - is where the pricing gets rougher.
Blowouts break player props
A prop on a starter is partly a bet on the game staying competitive. Garbage time is a real risk to an over.
Home advantage has shrunk
The historical home edge in the NBA is meaningfully smaller than it was a decade ago. Old rules of thumb are stale.
